Virtualised IT infrastructure with network configuration and security testing
Internal Project (BacklineIT)
A fully virtualized IT infrastructure including a MikroTik-based network, Ubuntu web server, Windows client, and Kali Linux attack environment. The project demonstrates networking, server accessibility, and security testing.
⚠️Challenge
The challenge was to build a stable and secure virtual network environment. The system needed to provide internet access, enable communication between client and server, and support security testing scenarios. Troubleshooting network issues such as DNS, NAT, and firewall configuration was also a key part of the project.
🛠️Solution
A MikroTik router was configured with NAT and firewall rules. An Ubuntu Server was deployed with a static IP address running an Nginx web server. A Windows client successfully accessed the server via a web browser. Kali Linux was used to perform security testing, including port scanning and brute force simulations using tools like Nmap and Hydra.
🚀Result
The system operates successfully: the server is accessible from the client, internet connectivity is stable, and security testing can be performed. The project demonstrates the fundamentals of a real-world IT infrastructure, including networking, server deployment, and cybersecurity testing.
